Bend knees at all times to protect the joints.

Soft elbows, not locked out.
Twist with the torso.
Variation using cables
Using a cable is also a great alternative as it keeps the tension, when holding free weights/medicine ball it’s very easy to allow the weight to fall back into position. Time under tension is important to activate the muscle being worked.
